Chosen to have Peace

The other day I went to get snapped, crackled, and popped, otherwise known as the chiropractor. I noticed something as I began to talk with him about all that was happening. He lacked Peace, and I can understand that, especially if you do not confess to know Jesus Christ. But my chiropractor claims to be a Christian, yet all I heard in his voice was frustration and confusion and even a little bit of anger. I heard no peace whatsoever.

I get it; we are in some very trying times, and guess what? They aren’t going to get any better. Just look at the Bible and what it says about the end times, and boy, does it feel like we are in them.

I have to believe that even though each trial that comes our way, God’s Peace is always available to us. The word “peace” is mentioned over 400 times in the Bible; if something is said that many times it’s got to be extremely important for us as individuals and a community of believers in Jesus Christ.

Here is what I am seeing from people who are calling themselves followers of the Living God. They aren’t acting like it, they aren’t living like it, and it shows. They are too consumed with what is happening in the world and listening to the news and what it has to say. To be totally honest, they are too busy listening to the lies of this world to rest in the Peace of our Lord Jesus Christ.

In John 14:27, Jesus states this: Peace I leave you, My Peace I give you; not as the world gives, do I give to you. Do not let your hearts be troubled, nor fearful.”

So, if we have been chosen to live for Christ to walk in His ways, why are we more focused on the troubles of this world and not the Peace of God? Jesus stated that there will be trials and tribulations, but that we can have Peace because He has overcome the world. (John 16:33).

Let’s get right down to the fact that we are in one of the biggest spiritual wars ever (and have been for a while now). But guess what? The ending has already been set in stone and can’t be changed. Are you ready for the biggest spoiler alert ever! God has already won! He is already on the throne. The day Jesus died on the cross was the day we won. He even said it as He hung on the cross, “It is finished.” (John 19:30). He then did something even more remarkable when he rose from the dead. Jesus Christ conquered death!

Yes, things look bad, and yes, they aren’t going to get better anytime soon. Stop focusing on all the lies this world tells us and start resting in the Peace that passes all understanding that we have in Jesus Christ!
